E-DISTILLATIONS
|
|
Dear Alumni and Friends,
We are pleased to bring you our Winter issue of e-Distillations. We begin 2016 with great enthusiasm for the year ahead, which, like those before it, promises to be filled with important achievements in research and chemistry education.
In this issue of e-Distillations, we have interviews with Professor Doug Stephan, who has been named an Einstein Visiting Fellow at Technische Universität (TU) Berlin and Julia Bayne, Chemistry’s most recent Vanier Scholar. We also present features on Professor Barb Morra, who was awarded the inaugural Chair’s Teaching Award, Professor Geoffrey Ozin, who is leading the University of Toronto Solar Fuels Cluster funded by the Connaught Global Challenge Award, and Professor Patrick Gunning, who has developed an innovative program in medicinal chemistry poised to make important impacts on challenging and rare disease targets.
While we will continue to bring you e-Distillations on a regular schedule, we are always interested in connecting with our alumni on a frequent basis. To this end, we have established a University of Toronto Chemistry Alumni LinkedIn group. We welcome alumni from both undergraduate and graduate Chemistry programs across all campuses of the University of Toronto. Members will receive regular updates on departmental events and activities, and have the opportunity to connect with other alumni.
Finally, our annual Ask a Laureate event is upcoming on May 6, 2016. This year’s event features talks by Professors Levent L. Diosady (Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry), Mark Lautens (Chemistry), Petter Ottensmeyer (Medical Biophysics), and Jumi Shin (Chemistry). You are invited to join us for this special event, which also includes presentation of awards to winners of our high school essay competition.
Comments or feedback? You’re always welcome to get in touch at commoff@chem.utoronto.ca.
Best Regards,
Robert Batey
Professor & Chair, Department of Chemistry
